COVID-19 & SURGERY UPDATE (25th May 2020)
Following the meeting of Cabinet and Medical authorities, it has been agreed that Orthopaedic Surgeons be allowed an increased number of elective surgery cases to take place from 25th May 2020. This is an increase from the previous 25% allowed.
I will be increasing the number of theatre lists as of 25th May 2020 and this will still be following the guidelines and allocation by Lingard Private Hospital. At this point in time I am still awaiting the John Hunter Hospital administration to indicate how they will be reinstating elective surgery, but I believe this will be taking place in the very near future.
So, to all my patients currently waiting for their previously allocated surgery to be rescheduled, I will be going through the process of organising your surgery in the near future. Surgery is still to be low risk candidates with minimal stay periods.
Therefore, I and my staff will be in contact with you as I am allocated more theatre time. This is a continually evolving situation and as such we will try our utmost to keep you informed regularly. My office, at this point in time, will still be contactable if you have any questions or concerns regarding your care.
When you are given a date for surgery by my office, please ensure you are adhereing to all the guidelines but especially more so in the 10 days prior to your surgery. These include physical distancing, following Government guidelines for gatherings, cough etiquette, frequent hand hygiene and limited movement outside of the house to essential activities only.
I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience. I wish you and your family all the best and please stay healthy by practicing all stated guidelines issued by our Federal and State Health Officials.
